Lemuria are great people and a super cool band. This was a really fun one to do.

There's a show on FOX called Alcatraz, and a recent episode (season one, episode three) featured a poster I'd drawn on the background in one scene. Here's a screen cap:

FUN FACT: This is the second time my art's appeared in a supernatural network drama. The first was when an extra wore one of the NN2S "It has begun!" shirts on The Ghost Whisperer.

FUN FACT 2: I don't watch any of these shows. Crossing my fingers for a "TRU PUNX" sticker to show up on Parks & Recreation some day. Now THAT would be exciting.

Green Day flyer

Woke up one day to my friend Max calling me. There was a secret show afoot in Austin, and he was going to put me on the list and assured me that, whatever my plans were, I had to go, though he wasn't allowed to tell me who would be playing. And so I was running through all the possibilities in my head all day long, excited for the prospect of a secret mystery show, when he called me back a few hours later and told me that he'd tell me who was playing if I promised to A) keep it a secret, and B) draw a flyer. I agreed. AND GUESS THE FUCK WHAT:

Bam! Incredibly exciting for me, as these guys have been one of my favorite bands since I was in middle school and my friend from across the street and I used to play Insomniac songs together in his basement.

I've always dreamed about getting to do a project with them (Green Day, if you're reading this, I don't have a band confirmed for Turnstile Comix #3 just yet...) and a flyer seemed like a great fit. And, I have to say, I'm incredibly proud with how this one came out. I'm not one to pat myself on the back about my art (quite the opposite, in fact), but this might be one of my personal favorite flyers I've ever done.

Plus the show was a lot of fun. Probably more new songs than I'd have preferred (though I get that they have a whole new fanbase now, so their newest album is probably a lot of people's favorite), but they played "She" so I chalk it up to a success.

So hooray! Did a flyer for one of my all-time favorite bands and saw them play a relatively small club all in the same two-day span. One of those times when having spent the past ten years making comics and flyers and album covers really payed off in a surprising way. Three cheers for punk rock!

Under the Influence – Mischief Brew / Franz Nicolay

Alright! I drew these like five billion years ago (read: six months) and honestly don't know if the record ever came out or not, but enough time's passed by now that it's got to be safe to share to the world, right? Right??

Anyhow, this one was super exciting for me because I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mischief Brew. These guys are off the fucking chain with fun awesomeness and you should all rush out and listen to their albums right now:

On the flip side of that record is none other than Franz Nicolay who, in addition to a respectable solo career, also plays in the Hold Steady and the World/Inferno Friendship Society, two of the better bands in existence right now. So, basically, he's cooler than all of us combined. Plus he has a totally epic mustache. Respect:

My Stupid Life – “I Whatever the 90s”

I've just been so busy over at Nothing Nice to Say that pretty much all flyers and albums covers and such have stopped, at least by and large for right now. But I still draw comics! Well, kids, I've finally done it. My desire to keep busy with a new webcomic paired with my inability to come up with anything better than that which I've already done before has led to the return of your favorite thing the internet's had to offer since the advent of the cat video. BEHOLD:

This one's just incredibly weird, but there you have it anyway. This one features a band made up of ex-member(s) of I Farm, and I loved I Farm, so this one holds a VERY SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART reserved just for flyers featuring local openers made up of ex members of other bands I've previously enjoyed! Fun!

Magic the Gathering: Razorcake Edition

Four weeks and four updates! I can finally safely say that I am on fire and not be referring to this ungodly Texas heatwave!

Whilst making a piece of promotional material for the Razorcake punk rock punk rock magazine, I came up with this dumb idea for a Razorcake-themed Magic the Gathering card. Then, with nothing else to do on a Sunday, I made one. AND I PASS THE SAVINGS ONTO YOU:

This thing is basically apropos of nothing. I'll show you the promo comic after the issue comes out. It's actually pretty funny. I mean, you know, for something I made. Plus, it has nothing at all to do with Magic the Gathering, so well over three of you will actually get the jokes. Huzzah!
